Rochdale Woman of the Year 2019

So this time last week...

I'm still feeling totally overwhelmed, being nominated and shortlisted for #SpringhillHospice #Rochdale Woman of the Year 2019 was an honour in itself, let alone having been awarded the title.

Thank you to @KerryHargreavesPhotography, who have generously provided me with the amazing photographs from the event which not only serve as a personal memento but also will help us to raise great awareness of #JollyJosh.

Some of these photographs picture me making a speech to a huge audience of powerful, inspirational women. With regards to public speaking, I've only ever delivered class assemblies and class awards in my role as a teacher, it's always been clear that I've even found those situations uncomfortable. However, in my role as founder of Jolly Josh I am extremely aware that the public need to hear Joshua's Journey and those of our Jolly Josh families, in order for positive change to take place. Therefore, it was with passion (and lots of nervousness) that I took to the microphone to promote our group and highlight the challenges faced by our families every single day. Since last week, lots of people have contacted me, one lady in particular proving why Jolly Josh is a vital group. She explained that a family member was in a similar position, a mother and full time carer of a son with complex needs. That emotions were high and that hearing my story had inspired them both. Connecting such families and providing support from both peers and professionals enables Jolly Josh to aid children and their families to thrive, our believe is that together we can #ConnectSupportThrive and #InspireInclusion.

Thank you to Springhill Hospice for hosting such a wonderful day!

The following photographs include the presentation of the award by Rochdale Woman of the Year 2018 Marilyn Jones, @Antony Cotton and Dame Mary Peters. Also pictured is me proudly accepting the award with Louise Winterbottom (one of my closest friends and Jolly Josh trustee).

Thank you once again, Carole x
