Jane Houghton
Paediatric Nurse
I am Jane Houghton and I am honoured to be invited to be a Trustee for Jolly Josh.. I am a registered Children’s Nurse, General Nurse and District Nurse, having initially trained at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital. After qualifying I worked on the Burns unit there, then was a Children’s Community Nurse, in North Manchester, a Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Specialist in Bradford and finally a Paediatric Nurse Consultant in Children’s Ambulatory Care in Preston before leaving the NHS in 2008 to work, until 2018, for Together for Short Lives, the UK wide charity that supports all professionals working in Children’s Palliative Care and the Children’s Hospices.
My role with Together for Short Lives involved supporting many of the local and regional Children’s Palliative Care Networks across England and Wales, including the Greater Manchester Network, the Cumbria and Lancashire Network and the North West Network. As part of my different roles I have also been involved in national initiatives, ranging from a couple of NICE guidelines, to Dying Matters in Wales, to Funeral Poverty, as well as publications such as Together for Short Lives Medicines Management and Royal College of Nursing Competencies for Children’s Palliative Care. I have always tried to promote the needs of children, and the care given by their families and the professionals that support them. I hope I can contribute to Jolly Josh, by using my knowledge, experience and contacts, to help such a worthy cause.
