Becky Drury

Teacher of children with PMLD

Hi I’m Becky and was absolutely delighted to be asked by Carole to become a Trustee for Jolly Josh. I’d followed Jolly Josh with interest and then was lucky enough to not only meet Carole, but share a class with her! Carole inspires me everyday with her passion and commitment to raising the bar for children and families of children with complex medical needs and profound and multiple learning difficulties in and around our home town of Rochdale. I have always had a strong interest in special needs having spent much of my childhood and teenage years going to school with mum who was also a special needs teacher. My interest continued to develop and I qualified as a teacher in 2003. My first teaching job was in a wonderful special school in Nottingham where I learnt so much from the amazing staff and therapists I worked alongside everyday. Here my interest in postural management and physical skills was enthused where I was very lucky to have wonderful physiotherapist in my class everyday. She taught me so much ! From there I moved back to Rochdale and worked in mainstream school in Oldham where I lead the Early Years though two successful Ofsted inspections. Missing working with children with complex medical and special needs I returned back to special. I worked with fantastic children and staff in a special school in Bury but due to the demands of family life I needed to work closer to home. This is where Carole and I met We have an adorable class and team and love going to work each day. I hope my skills as a teacher for learners with PMLD will be helpful and transferrable in my role as trustee.
